There are 6 species of snakes in Bangladesh that are capable of killing people. These are terrestrial and often sting people. Again many species of venomous snakes live in the sea. These snakes do not usually come in contact with humans. And the antivenom of the bite of these snakes is not in this country. However, there are some moderately venomous snakes whose bites are not as deadly. There are also some very rare species of venomous snakes. However, even if you do not know these. So let's talk about the common venomous snakes of these 8 species.
King Cobra
King Cobra |
The snake is the longest venomous snake in the world. However, the funny thing is that it looks like a Cobra snake, but it is not a species of Cobra. This is a completely different species of snake. Its scientific name is Ophiophagus hannah . The maximum length of the snake can be up to 5.8 meters (18.5 feet). It is found mainly throughout the forests of South Asia. They also have hoods like Cobra. Hence the name King Cobra. Behind their hoods, there is no design like spectacles like Cobra snakes.
This snake usually eats other snakes. Their venom is neurotoxic. In other words, this poison attacks the nervous system. This snake is found only in the Sundarbans in Bangladesh. However, the snake has been seen in Satchhari of Sylhet recently. This means that the snake still survives in very limited numbers in the deep forests of this country.
Their bodies are black and olive. There are yellow and white striped spots. They are easily recognized for their huge long bodies and patternless hoods. This snake lives in the forest. Does not come to the locality easily. So there is not much news about the bite of this snake.
Monocled Cobra /Gokhra/ Keute snake

Monocled Cobra

This snake is very familiar. Behind their hoods, there is a one-eyed spectacle-like design. That is why their name in English is Manokand Cobra. Its poison is also a neurotoxin. In other words, this poison works in the nervous system. This snake is a rat-eater. They are found in the vicinity of human settlements where there are rats. This snake is rarely seen in the world. Most people in our country die from the bite of this snake.
Spectacled Cobra / Goma Sap / Khaiya Gokhra / Kharish Gokhra:

This snake is also a species of cobra. However, they are also called Spectacled Cobras because they have a two-eyed spectacle-like design on the back of their hoods. They are more common in snakes. They prefer to stay in a dry place. They usually settle in abandoned brick piles around the house, the ruins of an old house, rat holes, or tree hollows. They are mainly active in the morning and evening.
Common Krait / Kalach / Ghamchata /

Common Krait
This snake is more poisonous than Cobra. Folklore has it that the smell of human sweat makes it rise in bed. However, the snake actually goes out in the middle of the night to catch frogs and rats. And they are also quite skilled at going beyond the walls. This is how they get up in bed instantly. And bites the fear of human movement. The bite is very gentle and most people do not feel sleepy. So toxic neurotoxin poison kills people in their sleep.
Again there is another innocent snake that looks just like this snake. Whose name is Wolf Snake / Housewife Snake? However, there are ways to distinguish between the two snakes. Krait's head is completely black. On the other hand, there is a white stripe on the back of the head of the housewife snake. And people suspect Krait to kill this snake more.
Banded Krait:

Although this snake is one of the deadliest venomous snakes in Bangladesh, it is a very useful snake. Because this snake eats other poisonous snakes like Cobra and Common Krait. So where this snake lives, other poisonous snakes do not live there. The snake does not bite people easily. It doesn't bite even when scared. So it goes without saying that there is no death toll from this snake bite.
Russell Viper / Chandra Bora:

Many people think that this snake is a python at first sight. Their body color is brown. The body is quite thick. When they are aroused, they keep the upper 1/3 of the body elevated and start hissing loudly. The venom of this snake is hematotoxicity. That means this poison works in the blood. Their venom melts the body tissues. These are jungle snakes. It can be easily mixed with the dried leaves falling in the forest soil. They are quite slow. People never enter their homes. Usually, the people who bite them mistakenly set foot on it while roaming in the forest. And when people see them rushing to bite, it is also completely baseless. No snake comes to bite unless it is injured or scared.
In Bangladesh, these 8 species of snakes are usually seen, some of which do not bite at all. Again, if all the venomous snakes bite a lot of times, the venom does not flow. This is called a dry bite. Many times people come to the hospital after being bitten by a venomous snake and it is seen that despite the obvious signs of poisonous teeth on their hands and feet, there is no reaction of the body. Which is a sign of a dry bite.
If the snake is not seen while biting, it is possible to know which snake has bitten by looking at the wound caused by the bite.
