The Royal Bengal Tiger

The Royal Bengal Tiger is the largest of the Big Cat Family. The bigger the animal looks, the more regal it is in nature. This tiger roams the Sundarbans like a king. That is why it has been given the status of the national animal of Bangladesh. So let's find out some important and interesting facts about this royal tiger.

Most of the world's tigers are found in Bangladesh and India. The Royal Bengal Tiger is found only in the Sundarbans of Bangladesh. Moreover, another species of tiger called 'Siberian Tiger' is found in Siberia, Russia, which is the largest. Siberian tigers usually roam in snow-covered areas, so they have thick skin and fur.

The scientific name of this tiger is Panthera Tigris. It is a member of the Panthera genus Felidae. The Panthera genus consists mainly of the Big Cats. That means tiger, lion, jaguar, leopard, clouded leopard, snow leopard. The largest of these is the tiger, the Royal Bengal Tiger.

A surprising fact about the Bengal Tiger is that the pattern of striped spots on the skin of any two tigers will never match. It's a lot like our fingerprint printers. In this way, it is possible to identify each tiger separately for the tiger census.

Bengal Tiger can live up to 10-15 years. On average, a male tiger weighs 225 kg and a female tiger weighs around 135 kg. Male tigers are about 9 feet in length and females are about 8 feet in length. They have very strong and strong canine teeth that grow to about 8.5 to 10 centimeters in length. Their teeth are the biggest among the big cats. Their tails are usually 35-40 inches long.

So what does the tiger mama eat? We all know that tigers are carnivores. They eat nothing but meat. They usually prey on herbivores such as deer, wild boar, gourd, etc., and eat their meat. They can eat about 40 kg of meat in one sitting. Can you imagine ?! Try to see how many kilos you can eat at home.

The Bengal Tiger is a native predator. Nature has given them all the weapons to kill. Decorated with 10 cm barbed nails and 8.5 cm canine teeth, they jump on someone, and death is guaranteed in an instant. They use cunning tactics to catch prey. They can kill in an instant.

Most of the time tigers go hunting at night. They are determined to catch their prey. If you and I had planned the way they planned before hunting a small deer, I would have become world-famous by now. Bengal tigers also try to climb trees to catch prey, although they are not very good at climbing trees. They are as strong as they are violent. They can easily pull the body of a few tons of Indian bison, which weighs more than themselves.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is a naturally ferocious species. They like to be alone. However, only in winter, they are seen to form a group of 3/4 people. They are very fast and efficient swimmers. They usually roam in grasslands, mangroves, and wetlands. There is no specific season for their reproduction but their reproductive rate is higher in winter.

The fur of a Bengal tiger is waterproof to some extent. A tiger's coat is made up of two layers: the outer layer, which consists of long, coarse hairs, and the inner layer, which is made up of shorter, softer hairs. The outer layer is designed to repel water, helping to keep the tiger dry in wet environments.

Tigers are adapted to living in a variety of habitats, including rain-forests and wetlands, and their waterproof fur helps them to survive in these environments. When a tiger's fur gets wet, the water runs off the outer layer, keeping the tiger's skin and undercoat dry.

However, it's important to note that while a tiger's fur is waterproof to some extent, it's not completely impervious to water. If a tiger were to spend an extended period of time in the water, its fur would eventually become saturated, making it harder for the tiger to regulate its body temperature and potentially increasing its risk of hypothermia.

Bengal tigers can give birth to 4-5 cubs at a time; Pregnancy is usually 3 months. Their memory is strong. Once they recognize a face, they do not forget it. Even their memory is better than that of humans and other animals. A tiger never roars when it fights another tiger. Just grunts and hisses. However, they want to avoid fighting as much as possible. Because they are not grouped in pride like lions. Therefore, if injured, they are more likely to die of starvation than not being able to hunt.

When injured, Bengal Tiger started licking his wound with his tongue. This is because the lysozyme present in tiger saliva acts as an antibiotic. This also stops their bleeding and the wound heals.

They provide adequate protection to their families and children. To mark the area, they spray a mixture of urine and musk on a nearby bush or stone wall. The roar of the tiger can be heard for about a few miles.

The Bengal Tiger hunts most of the night. They attack the prey. Placing a 6.5 cm tooth on the victim's neck damages the nerves. As a result, the victim immediately stopped moving and fell into the lap of death. When death is confirmed, the tiger drags its prey to its desired place to rest and feast.

Tigers can swim very well. And they like water very much. That is why many people in the Sundarbans fall in the face of tigers while crossing the river by boat.

Their hind legs are slightly larger than their front legs. That's why they can jump about 20-30 feet. Their night vision is much better than humans and this infinite power makes them super hunters.

According to the 2019 report, there are only 440 Bengal tigers in Bangladesh. There are 298 in India. The latest census of tiger numbers has always been a concern of the government and the government is determined to save this royal animal from extinction. Even then, the number of tigers is declining day by day due to poaching, deforestation, and poaching, and black markets.
