Asiatic black bears are found in northern Pakistan, south of Afghanistan, east
of the Himalayas, northern Vietnam, south of China, and Thailand.
Asiatic black bears live in moist and damp forests. They prefer the place where the stalks are a little thicker, where there is a steep slope of the hill. Sometimes they leave the forest and move to the plains.
Significant morphological differences are observed between males and females. Male bears weigh 110 to 150 kg and females 65 to 90 kg. Their heads are large and round. The eyes are small. The ears are big. Their bodies are very heavy, their legs are thick and very strong. The claws are quite large. There is a tail, but it can not be seen. The chest has white spots like the English letter "V". And a small part of the chin has white hair.
Little has been known so far about Asiatic black bears in the wild. All that is known about their nature and behavior is based on research on bear bears in zoos. Their bodies and legs are very strong so they can easily stand on two legs. It can even walk quite a distance on two legs like a human. They have a thick black and thick fur lining. Although their ears are slightly larger than those of the other two bear species, their hearing is not as good. Sight is not very good. However, their strong sense of smell fills this gap. They can sense the smell of anything in the vicinity from a great distance.
Asiatic black bears are solitary animals. They are only seen together during the breeding season. Male bears are also seen fighting for males and females. Their claws are slightly shorter than those of other bear species.
Despite being quite heavy, they are quite adept at climbing trees. They climb trees, break tree branches and build nests there. This makes it easier for them to hunt fruits and small animals.
Asiatic black bears hibernate throughout the winter. They prepare for this though in advance. In autumn, they eat as much food as they need in Petpur. At this time they become quite fat. Because this fat body fat will keep their body hydrated throughout the winter.
They are able to reproduce within 4 to 5 years. Female bears give birth to 1 to 4 cubs during 6 to 7 months of gestation. The female bear usually gives birth in a rocky cave by the river. Babies do not have any hair on their body at birth. And after exactly 6 months, they can leave their mother's milk and eat solid food. They have been with their mother for about three years. Mother bears are extremely conservative towards their offspring. So it is very dangerous to be around the cubs.
Asiatic black bears can live 25 years in the wild and up to 30 years in captivity.
Although they have been categorized as carnivores, other bear species are also omnivorous. They eat everything from small animals to fish, fruits and grass. Although fruits and acorns cannot nourish them like meat, they spend most of their time searching for tree fruits, bichnat, acorns, etc. Moreover, termites and ants are also their favorite food.
Because of their large and violent nature, they have no enemies in nature. Their main enemy is people. They are losing their natural habitat as a result of deforestation. People hunt them for no reason. Although bear hunting is banned in most countries, their limbs are sold on the black market at exorbitant prices for traditional medicine. And it is not possible to take any special steps to stop these. So the number of this animal is decreasing day by day.
